Why Do I Need to Submit Fingerprints and Photographs?

If you have been charged with a criminal offence, Section 2 of the Identification of Criminals Act gives the police the power to request that you provide fingerprints and photographs.  This is usually done on or before your first court appearance.  If your charges are subsequently withdrawn or you are found not guilty at trial, you may apply to have these records destroyed.  The decision to either retain or destroy these records is at the discretion of the Police service that laid the charge(s) against you.

If you have to attend the police station to provide fingerprints and photographs, call (416)-428-2760 to schedule a free, confidential consultation in our Toronto office.
